Many Hats from the Inside and Out
Those of you who know me, know I am a partner in a brewery. We are small so everyone "wears many hats". I do a lot of back end things. But most obvious is that there I am in the tasting room serving beer 7 days a week. I also am the back up "sound guy". To be honest I do have a bit of chip on my shoulder when it comes to being a female doing a guy sort of job. The jobs people don't expect me to be doing. Like running the sound board. Or even knowing about the beer when I am serving. New people often ignore me and go right for the guy behind the bar to ask questions. Woe to the sales person who assumes I am just an old lady behind the bar. Fastest way to get their info circularly filed.
It doesn't happen very often but the other day I ended up wearing two hats at once. Serving beer and also being the sound person. It was pretty busy so I was running over to make some sound adjustments, then on my way back to the bar I picked up some empty glasses. I heard someone say, "That must be the waitress". I wonder if they saw me tense up.
Last night I ended up in the same spot. I was selling beer and also running sound. But this time a young lady smiled at me and said, "I see you are wearing many hats again."
That made me feel much more appreciated. So I smiled back and said, "Yep!"
Funny how much difference a turn of phrase can make.
